Yankees-Stonewall Scholarship Opportunity; deadline 4/21/25

NYC Public Schools, in partnership with the Stonewall Inn and the New York Yankees, are partnering for the 6th Annual Yankee-Stonewall Scholarship Initiative. This one-time scholarship of $10,000 will be awarded to a NYCPS high school student from each borough. The five recipients will be announced in Spring 2024.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

• A current Senior in high school
• Intending to attend a two-year or four-year college
• A member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ+) community or someone who has contributed significantly to the LGBTQ+ community
• At least a 2.5 GPA

The Yankees-Stonewall Scholarship Initiative was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn uprising and celebrate the achievements of New York City Public School students.NYCPS, in partnership with the Yankees and The Stonewall Inn, created the Yankees-Stonewall Scholars Initiative, now in its seventh year. Please encourage eligible graduating seniors to apply for the scholarship by 11:59 p.m. on April 21.

The application components include two 500-word essay prompts, and a short answer prompt describing LGBTQ advocacy and leadership the applicant has displayed in either school or the community. Applicants must also submit a recommendation letter from a teacher at their school. 

The Scholarship Committee will review all 2025 applications and name a recipient from each borough in May.
