Workshop: Explaining COVID-19 to Children -- 1/26 @7:30pm Register

On Tuesday, January 26, DOE will host a workshop from 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM EST on

“How children come to understand illness and how to explain COVID 19 to them.”

This presentation focuses on explaining COVID to children (including young children and those with ID and NDD). Subsequent sessions focus on practical suggestions on how to help children cope with associated distress, how to explain death to children, coping strategies for families of children with special needs, and the importance of adults taking care of themselves. This session, therefore, has more information about “understanding” and therefore may seem less applied (by looking at the slides). The other sessions will emphasize practical and concrete approaches.

Presenters David J Schonfeld, MD, FAAP, Director, National Center For School Crisis And Bereavement Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  Host Jose Rios Lua, Director of Family Empowerment and Communications, Chief Academic Office.
