The CUNY system remains one of the biggest bargains in higher education, and is often the most affordable college option for many families. CUNY’s prestigious Macaulay Honors College program presents a host of perks to its students.
Students applying to CUNY colleges should note the following important information that often confuses applicants:
-Macaulay Honors College (MHC) is NOT a stand -alone institution; Macaulay programs are available at most of the four- year universities in the CUNY system. You must select a home campus when applying to Macaulay.
-you CANNOT apply to CUNY via the Common Application. You can only apply via the CUNY website.
-MHC applicants cannot use the CUNY Fast App. Fast App applicants can still make rec letter requests and/or upload an essay to their application for general admission
-students who apply to MHC will also automatically be reviewed for general admission for each CUNY college in the application (you can enter up to six choices)
-applicants will only be considered for the Macaulay program for one campus choice Choose wisely!
-Your transcript will automatically be sent to CUNY for Macaulay and the general CUNY application as a result of your entering your OSIS number in your application
-MHC admissions staff recommends that students upload a resume as a supporting document to supplement their application
-CUNY is test-optional. If you would like to share your scores, you must have scores sent officially to CUNY UAPC (code 2950) via the ACT or CollegeBoard websites. Do not send scores to individual CUNY colleges or to Macaulay. Remember also that scores sent to CUNY can take up to six weeks to process.
-The application deadline for MHC is October 26 for ED applicants, and Nov. 16 for RD applicants
-MHC requires two academic letters of rec by 11/30 for RD. Letters are due by Oct. 26 for ED applicants. Students completing the Macaulay application must enter two academic recommenders' email addresses where prompted within the application. Teachers/counselors will then receive an email through which they may submit their letter. Recs can be sent for the general CUNY application as well
-Students must enter their college counselor's email rather than their school (guidance) counselor's if they want to use their school counselor’s letter for CUNY admission.
-Please note the deadlines for Macaulay are hard deadlines for students; academic recs for Macaulay must be submitted by the aforementioned hard deadlines
-financial aid applicants will eventually need to include each CUNY campus in the FAFSA
