Stuyvesant-IYPT-team visit NYU

Dr. Winkel shares that members of the Stuyvesant-IYPT-team and I visited on 11/24/25 at NYU the Department of Solid State Physics  and the Center for Quantum Information Physics.

The students saw their experimental setups and had professors explain how these research groups are making Quantum dots out of single layers of Arsenic and Germanium, eventually exciting these Quantum dots with lasers to produce pairs of entangled Photons.

The Center for Quantum Information Physics is also researching Topological Superconductors which employ so-called Anyons as charge carriers, instead of Bosons (Cooper-Pairs). These Anyons do neither follow Fermi-Dirac nor Bose-Einstein statistics.
