Mr. Robert Sandler shares photos from the celebration of the Lincoln book prize!

A small group of Mr. Sandler's APUSH students had the unique honor of engaging with Dr. Edda L. Fields-Black, this year’s winner of the prestigious Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize, awarded for her groundbreaking book COMBEE: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom During the Civil War (Oxford University Press). Dr. Fields-Black was recognized with a $50,000 award for her work, which sheds new light on Harriet Tubman’s military leadership and the broader story of Black freedom during the Civil War.

Our students were privileged to attend her book talk, participate in a thought-provoking Q&A session, and receive personally autographed copies of her book. To top off the evening they had a delicious dinner. It was a memorable and inspiring experience! See a full size photo collage here.
