Stuy Speech & Debate compete in 4 virtual tournaments last weekend!

Coach, Ms. Julie Sheinman shares that on Friday and Saturday, October 22 and 23, 2021, She "attended" four individual Speech and Debate tournaments with over 70 team members participating virtually.

The 70 students include entries for the virtual CFL Tournament at Xavier, the online policy tournament or our Novice, first-time debaters and  a  CFL Public Forum contest at Regis on 10/23. Additionally, they were online for the Manhattan Debate League tournament on Friday.

Our students did fantastic! Here are the results:

PF novices and the policy team novices made their debut.      They did very well and had a great time! Some even received 1/2 qualifications for the State Championship.

On the Speech and Congress side of things at Virtual Xavier our novices made their debuts in Speech and Congress.

Many of the first timers reached finals with Chinayah Brown placing first at her very first tournament.  Novices in JV extemp advanced to finals, and our JV readers placed 1,2,and 3

out of a very large field.  Big congratulations to Melia Moore who placed first at all three of the tournaments we attended.

15 new Stuyvesant Congressional debaters made their debut, with Captains Zhaklene Saunders and Will Summitt leading the pack,

CONGRATS to ALL the varsity team members who did a great job of coaching their novices. You are really upholding a very time-honored tradition
