Poet Sarah Kay visited Stuy and was hosted by English teachers, Dr. Emily Moore and Ms. Annie Thoms. About 400 students attended her two back-to-back readings, dozens stayed to ask personal questions and connect individually, and THREE of Ms. Thom's students got to speak with her about having chosen Sarah Kay as their "personal poet" for a 9th grade class assignment over the past few years. It was truly beautiful. As one young student said, "I can't believe I'm meeting someone whose books I've been reading here in my school." Another said, "I am a CS kid but I think your poems might have taught me something like empathy." See a full size photo collage here.
