On Saturday, April 26, Stuyvesant in collaboration with the Alumni Association and other specialized high schools hosted the annual BIPOC youth summit - a full day of parent and student workshops that included performances, breakfast, lunch and discussions with special guests. Special guest speaker, Dr. Uché Blackstock, Stuy '95 spoke on "Unpacking Legacy: From the Personal to the Systemic". Dr. Blackstock is the founder and Chief Advisor of Advancing Health Equity, regularly appears on MSNBC and NBC News and is a former associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. She founded AHE in 2019 with the mission of partnering with healthcare organizations to dismantle racism in healthcare and to close the gap in racial health inequities.
Students enjoyed a performance from the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Workshops were conducted by counselors and social workers, Ms. Tara Williams and Dr. Ebony.
