Alexa Seltzer shares that BMEI hosted a guest speaker lecture on January 31. Dr. Marija Kundakovic, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Fordham University, came to Stuy to discuss her recent research regarding the epigenetic mechanisms regulating gene behavior and their effect on brain development and psychiatric disorders. She specifically delved deeper into the concept of how hormones and genes impact the prevalence of mental disorders in women and why this topic is important to the population as a whole. Dr. Kundakovic has a vast background in pharmacology and biochemistry, with a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, as well as a PharmD.
