Now that New York State schools are device-free during the school day for distraction-free learning, our students are adjusting to free and lunch periods without phones, tablets and laptops by enjoying time together, studying, reading and playing games. To help with the adjustment, the library has weekly crafting activities at their 'Brain Break' table highlighting Boondoggle and puzzles; with the funding available from the PA, we're setting up 'Bookshare' libraries on various floors throughout the building where students can take a book or leave a book to read; the counseling department set up coloring stations throughout the building, and our Family Engagement Team has set up a Game Check Out with board games, chess, and card games to play with friends! Students are making use of the time they have during the school day to take a break from electronics, get to know each other better, and engage in real social interaction.
