On the last day of our semester break, over 100 students braved the cold to come to school for a talk by four members of Sharaka—a group comprised of members of the Abraham Accord countries who seek to foster what they call a "warm peace" through dialogue and difficult conversations. They answered questions about many different dynamics of the Middle East from the political situation with Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and the other Abraham Accord countries, as well as the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza. Needless to say, that after more than an hour, they had only scratched the surface of a highly complex situation, but students were able to see different perspectives from those in their Instagram feed. They emphasized the need to travel and discover the places and people and search for commonality among people of different faiths and nationalities. Ms. Wei Wah Chin, former PA president (who sent 4 kids to Stuyvesant) helped set up the talk.
Here are some photos from the event.
