Get ready for Parent Teacher Conferences!
Parent Teacher Conference at Stuyvesant - Thursday 10/25 from 5:30- 8pm & Friday, 10/26 from 1-3pm.
Parents may visit classes on Friday, October 26th from 8:15am to 12:11pm.
Ø There are NO advance appointments made for parent teacher conferences.
Ø Doors open at 5:30pm for parents on Thursday 10/25 and 1pm on Friday, 10/26.
Ø Parents (even those volunteering) may not go to rooms early to sign wait lists or speak with teachers early. Ø A list of room assignments for teachers is posted on the school website. CLICK HERE.
Ø Look over your child’s schedule by downloading a copy from Talos and after receiving your child’s report
card, decide which teachers to visit, making note of what rooms those teachers will be located in on
conference days on the room assignment sheet. Copies will also be available at school.
Ø If you come to conferences and don’t know who your child’s teachers are and/or need your child’s schedule
or their report card, you may go to Room 209 or 239 for printed copies.
Ø Parents who need translation in Mandarin, Cantonese or Korean should proceed directly to the 2nd floor
atrium in front of room 271 to be paired with free a one-to-one interpreter that will travel with them to
each room. Our relationship with NYU and Columbia affords us many native-speaking volunteers for this!
Ø All parents not in need of interpreters should enter and proceed directly to the rooms of the teachers they
would like to visit and sign up with the ARISTA student monitor at the door. They will tell you approximately
how long to expect to wait. Parents may sign up for more than one teacher at time, but if a name is called
and missed, the system will automatically place your name at the bottom of the waitlist upon returning. If
there’s a need for a conference longer than 2-3 minutes, please schedule an appointment for a later date.
Ø School Counselors accept appointments all year long! Parents do not need to wait until parent teacher
conference days to see them. Their schedules are more flexible during the day than teachers with classes, so
parents should assess the value in long wait times at the Counseling suite versus using that time to speak to
teachers on conference days, and simply email or call to make an appointment with the School Counselor if
they encounter a long wait time.
Classroom Observation Day – October 26th 8:15am-12:11pm
Stuyvesant allows parents to enter classrooms to observe abbreviated classes on this morning. Please keep
in mind the following guidelines:
Ø Parents may only enter the building on Friday morning via the main lobby entrance with a valid Photo ID and
must sign into the building and receive a visitor’s pass from the security desk to travel through the building
with students during a regular school day. Doors will open at 7:45 to sign in. 1st period begins at 8:15am.
Ø Staff members will be in the lobby if you need a copy of your child’s schedule and printout of what times the
periods will begin and end. CLICK HERE for Friday’s schedule.
Ø Only a limited number of parents may stand in the back of each classroom at a time for space/safety reasons.
Please allow the students to sit at desks for class.
Ø If a class is full, please move on to another room to observe and return for the next period’s class.
Ø Parents may enter any classroom; doesn’t have to be a classroom of their own child’s schedule or teacher.
Ø Please respect that class is in session and silence cell phones, refraining from texting or talking.
Please enter/exit classes at the beginning/end of classes not interrupting the class.
Ø Please respect that classroom observations are not a time for conferences with teachers about individual
students. You must return between 1-3pm to have individual conferences about your child.
Ø Parents must exit the building at dismissal after 10th period and return at 1pm for conferences through the
bridge or main lobby entrances.
