<p>The <strong>O'Keefe Foundation Scholarship</strong> is worth $8,000 (paid over four years) in memory of Firefighter Patrick J. O'Keefe, who lost his life at the World Trade Center on September 1, 2001.</p>
<p>There are NO ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS for this scholarship...but, the application requirements are very specific. Please carefully read below:</p>
<p><strong>Applicants are eligible only if they fall under one of two categories:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Option 1</strong>-student is a US Citizen who is an immigrant, or child of an immigrant</p>
<p><strong>Option2</strong>-student has lost a parent to an act of violence</p>
<p><strong>There is an essay requirement, with a word limit of 1000, with a</strong><strong><u> </u></strong><strong><a href="http://12.pt">12.pt</a></strong><strong><u> </u></strong><strong>font, double spaced:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Option 1 (Immigrant Student/Parent) Essay must include:</strong></p>
<p><strong>-</strong>the circumstances by which the student arrived in the US</p>
<p>-what are the challenges faced both here upon arrival and abroad</p>
<p>-what were the influences on the decision of the family to become American citizens</p>
<p>-future plans</p>
<p><strong>Option 2 (Loss of Parent) Essay must include:</strong></p>
<p><strong>-</strong>the circumstances surrounding the loss</p>
<p>-how the applicant and family are coping with the loss</p>
<p>-the personal goals and aspirations of the student</p>
<p><strong>Two rec letters are required for all applicants:</strong></p>
<p>-one from Stuy staff (teacher, guidance counselor, adviser, etc.)</p>
<p>-one from outside of Stuy</p>
<p><strong>To apply, bring SIX (6) copies of your essay, your outside letter of rec, and the complete application (attached) no later than</strong><strong> </strong><strong>MONDAY, MARCH 11<sup>th</sup> to the College Office. </strong>They can then include the School Counselor rec and mail for you; <strong>if you’d prefer a teacher rec be sent instead, please ask your teacher to provide your college counselor with a hard copy of their letter by MONDAY, MARCH 11<sup>th</sup>. </strong>Link to Application.</p>
