Youth Trainings - Earn Service Hours

We are continuing to offer our series of youth trainings, which students can earn service hours for. We also encourage educators and youth service providers to attend to gain the tools to engage students in local government and voting.

Register for a training session here.

If you are interested in hosting a specialized voter engagement session for your school community, please respond to this email. I am always happy to work with students, teachers, and staff on individualized voter engagement efforts.

“We Got Issues! Episode 3: The 2021 City Council Race” - March 3 @ 6pm

We invite you and your youth to join YVote, NYC Votes, and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development for “We Got Issues! Episode 3: The 2021 City Council Race” on March 3 @ 6pm on the NYC Votes’ Facebook Live. This youth-driven conversation on the 2021 City Council race will cover what city council members actually do, why these races matter, and how young people can insert themselves in this election cycle. This is an important conversation that will provide our youngest New Yorkers with context for just how much City Council impacts our daily lives and what’s at stake this 2021 local election cycle.

RSVP Here

This is an excellent opportunity to get students engaged with the upcoming City Council race. If they're not available for the Live on Wed at 6PM, video from the event will be on all of our Instagrams the following day (YVote here; NYCVotes here, and DYCD here.

2021 Civics Week Youth Forum - March 11

At the Civics Week’s Youth Forum, youth will have an interactive and powerful discussion with a group of peers from across the city about a pressing issue impacting young people that NYC’s mayoral candidates and other city officials need to address right now. Youth will get to select two issues that they are most passionate about during registration, including:

  • Education
  • Racial Justice
  • Climate Change
  • Immigration
  • Mental Health/Health Care
  • Jobs & Economy
  • Criminal Justice & Gun Policy
  • Civil Rights & Civil Liberties
  • Gender Justice & LGBTQ+ Rights
  • Housing & Gentrification

After these conversations, students will plan to continue the conversation, advocate for their issue, and be involved in this important election for our city (including registering to vote!).

Register here.

As part of the Civics For All initiative, Civics Week includes efforts to get every young person to understand that their voice matters and that they can create change as active participants of their community. This event is in collaboration with NYC Votes, YVote, and the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development.

If you have any questions or would like to get your school more involved with NYC Votes’ youth programming, please let me know.

If you would like to be unsubscribed from these opportunities, please let me know and I will remove you from our list.

Best Regards,

Olivia
