Mr. Stan Kats shares that the NYC Math Team took part in the Princeton University Math Competition on November 16th. Our top team finished in 3rd place overall, and our second team finished in 10th place overall. This is the second time that the NYC Math Team had these results (2011 was the last), and we are the only team to ever have two teams finish in the top ten, let alone do it twice.
The top team, Tin Man, placed 5th during the live round and won the power round. It had four students make the individual tiebreakers - Srinath Mahankali for Number Theory, and Algebra, Rishabh Das for Algebra, Ethan Joo for Geometry and Tovi Wen for Geometry. The first three are Stuyvesant students while the latter is from Hunter. The team was led by Stuyvesant seniors Kimi Sun, Akash Das and Nancy Kuang.
The second team, Scarecrow, finished 8th during the team round. It had three students make the individual tiebreakers - Theo Schiminovich for Combinatorics, Maxim Vaysburd for Combinatorics, and Mario Tutuncu-Macias for Number Theory.
In total, 19 of the 24 students who attended were from Stuyvesant
