Ms. Rosanny Genao shares pictures and a short video of students in her Spanish II and III classes who celebrated the Lunar New Year on Monday, January 23rd.
She shares, "As part of the festivities, we read a short story in Spanish about two families, the Fongs and the Sánchez. The Fongs invited the Sánchez to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a traditional Chinese-American feast on Lunar New Year’s eve. Students took turns reading the story aloud and independently. Thereafter, they analyzed and discussed the text and explored the similarities and differences between the celebrations across distinct cultures, including their own. They found major connections amongst Hispanic holidays such as El Día de los Muertos, La Navidad, El Día de los Reyes Magos, and Lunar New Year! They all center around family, food, and the importance of honoring the values and traditions of our ancestors."
