Last week, Mr. Sandler's NYC History class embarked on a journey through New York City's rich history through our trolley tour of Greenwood Cemetery. Students delved into the fascinating lives of notable figures such as Dewitt Clinton, Boss Tweed, Leonard Bernstein, and Basquiat, whose legacies were etched into the city's fabric. As we wandered among the final resting places of Civil War veterans, the atmosphere was poignant and reflective. The highlight of the day was an exclusive tour of the catacombs, where we encountered Ward McAllister, portrayed by Nathan Lane in HBO's captivating series, The Gilded Age.Amidst stunning landscapes adorned with intricate sculptures and grand mausoleums, students reveled in the beauty of nature intertwined with history. This day was not only educational but also unforgettable, marking a perfect conclusion to our New York City history course!
