Mr. Robert Sandler shares highlights from his class trip to the Bialystok synagogue, the Eldridge street synagogue (tour guide was a 1972 Stuy alum Bradley Shaw!) and the Greek Kehila Kadosha Janina. Students actually held Torah scrolls from 18th century Greece!
They also learned about Jewish immigrant life and the sweat shops by studying the Levine & Rogarshevsky families at the Tenement Museum. They ate pastrami sandwiches and egg creams at Katz’s deli, & explored the famous Lower East Side’s past through architectural landmarks! (photos courtesy of Mr. Sandler)
