Mr. Robert Sandler shares that his class explored the historic lower east side Wednesday. They toured the Eldridge Street Synagogue, the Romaniote Greek Synagogue, and the Bialystok synagogue. Students also visited the old Yiddish Forward building and analyzed old Yiddish newspapers (notice JFK on front page!). They learned about Jewish socialists, anarchists, capitalists, celebrity cantors and Jewish gangsters. He mentions, “to sustain ourselves we are rugelach, pastrami, bialys and pickles”. Sounds delicious! It was a great adventure! See more photos on the Stuy Blog in Talos. (photos courtesy of Mr. Sandler)
