Mr. McClellan's AP Environmental Science classes hosted Stuy alum (Class of 1971) and Chief Scientist of the NOAA on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 to celebrate climate week. Dr. Rick Spinard shared his journey from Stuyvesant through NGO's, small businesses, academia, government jobs and two retirements that led him to one of the most prestigious offices in the Department of Commerce. He oversees 12,000 employees, including developing NOAA’s portfolio of products and services to address the climate crisis, enhancing environmental sustainability and fostering economic development, and creating a more just, equitable, diverse and inclusive NOAA workforce. In addition to his impressive work, he shared the importance of passion, people, and ability to pivot.
