Mr. David Hanna shares his student's annual Founding Brothers simulation in social studies classes this week!
"Students read Joseph Ellis's Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Founding Brothers. When they completed the book, they were assigned groups who focused on one of its six chapters and formulated a "dissertation" on why the event in their assigned chapter was the most important event in the early Republic (for instance, the Hamilton-Burr Duel, or Washington's Farewell Address).
Students wore formal dress when presenting, and had to face a panel of their peers when defending their dissertation. Because all of the students had read the entire book, they were well positioned to ask challenging questions. This "defense" piece produced the best moments of the entire three-day simulation."
