Congratulations to Stuyvesant’s Math Modeling teams for their outstanding performances in the SIMIODE Challenge Using Differential Equations (SCUDEM)! The team of Jackson Hayes, Ethan Sharma, and Jackie Zeng earned a Meritorious designation for their mathematical analysis of how the metals present in consumer-grade chocolate can affect various systems in the body. The team of Sascha Gordon-Zolov, Armistead Williams, and Connor Yau also earned a Meritorious designation for their mathematical model comparing two different methods of hunting a mastodon: throwing a spear versus piking.
This is a first for Stuyvesant in this university-level competition, so congratulations to the teams for their ground-breaking performance! Students who wish to learn more about applying math through modeling can reach out to Mr. Honner in the mathematics department
