June is Pride Month, a time to appreciate and celebrate the contributions and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community. As in past years, please join the DOE in our system-wide commitment to affirm and elevate our LGBTQ+ students and staff.
Throughout June, there will be many LGBTQ+ events for schools to attend to celebrate and inspire LGBTQ+ students and staff, including the LGBTQ+ History Talks series, Stonewall Inn Virtual Tours, movie screenings, and other activities. To learn more and register for these events and trainings, please see the LGBTQ Supports family-facing page.
Check out GFP friend and activist Samy Nour Younes’ short history of transgender people’s long fight for equality as well as a short exploration of Pride’s origins, evolution, and desire to return to its protest roots. Don’t forget that Pride is an ongoing movement; here is a recap of last summer’s historic gathering at the Black Trans Lives March in Brooklyn.
