Important Info for Georgetown and MIT Applications

There is always a bit of confusion for Stuy students surrounding application logistics for MIT and Georgetown. If you're applying to MIT or Georgetown, please see below.
MIT
- You need to make sure you manually add MIT to your Naviance list, and to indicate your application plan ( EA or RD). Refer back to our email to all seniors on 10/1
- MIT is Naviance compatible. While you will need to request recs from your teachers and college counselor (who will submit the letter your guidance counselor wrote for you) through the MIT website, our staff submit rec letters and other school documents through Naviance, and not the MIT portal. That is perfectly fine with MIT; they do not require the MIT specific forms from Stuy
- It often takes MIT several weeks to process documents. Relax; all of your documents will arrive on time for review. If anything is missing in mid -November, check in with your assigned college counselor
Georgetown
- Georgetown is NOT Naviance compatible, but you must manually add it and your corresponding application plan to Naviance so we know that you’re applying
- Teachers submit their recs to GTown through the online GTown portal after you have invited them through their application
- Our college counselors do not use the Georgetown SSR form, even though you will request that form from them online. Instead, we upload your guidance counselor rec letter, fall schedule, official transcript, and the Stuy High School Profile to a portal called Slate. Georgetown then pulls these documents from Slate.
- Georgetown is perfectly fine with this process (Slate) and do not require their specific SSR form for Stuy applicants
- Remember that Georgetown does NOT accept self-reported ACT or SAT scores; you must have them sent directly from the appropriate testing organization (ACT or CollegeBoard)
Remember, the College Office communicates with both of these admissions offices as needed, and we send students to both institutions every year. Our process works well and allows us to manage the high volume of documents that must be sent from Stuy more efficiently.
We hope this clarifies things!
