Transportation & Safety Education Outreach (DOT SEO) in conjunction with the NYC DOE use injury and fatality data to identify areas where students are at greatest risk for pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicles crashes. Our school was identified as a priority school based on this data, and our students were presented with what may be a lifesaving opportunity for information.
Family Life Theater addressed some of the most salient and challenging issues our youth face in and around
the traffic environment, and beyond and demonstrated the tools students need to counter peer pressure, bullying and distraction, emphasizing the value of critical thinking, safe decision making and solid problem-solving skills.
They went over traffic safety issues such as drinking and driving (as it affects both driver and passenger), speeding,
distraction in the traffic environment, and bullying. The performance compelled students to enter the action and interact with the performers, with positive, well-received outcomes. The students were engaged and it was a moving, thought provoking session! Many thanks to SPARK Advisor, Mr. Angel Colon and Assistant Principal, Brian Moran for coordinating this valuable presentation! If you would like to know the synopsis of this moving performance, please read it HERE. (some photos courtesy of Mr. Colon)
