In March 2024, Dr. Stephon Alexander of Brown University will launch Sound+Science at the new Civic Hall space in Union Square. Sound+Science is a groundbreaking educational program aimed at inspiring exceptional students to explore the intersection of physics, coding, math and music. Based on Dr. Alexander's book The Jazz of Physics, participants will explore modules like The Hidden Codes in Electronic Music, From Hip-Hop to AI, and Music Improvisation and the Evolution of the Mathematics of Computation revealing the profound connections between music, coding, physics and mathematics.
Underwritten by the Simons Foundation, Sound+Science will be offered free to New York City public high school students in their junior year. Students interested in attending the program, which runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from March to May, can apply through their website at https://soundplusscience.com/.
Through the project, students will learn to write code, create music and interact with some of the brightest minds in physics and music.
