New York Cares and Stuyvesant High School is happy to invite you and your child to participate in our FAFSA Completion Event to help students apply for financial aid for college. On Wednesday, November 6th in room 351 at Stuyvesant High School, a team of trained volunteers will provide free assistance to students and their families as they complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This program has been run at many other schools, and as a result, hundreds of families learned about their financial aid packages in time to make informed decisions about college acceptances.
To participate in the FAFSA Completion Event:
· RSVP to Mrs. Elizabeth Hughes at ehughes@stuy.edu by Monday, November 4th (spaces are given out on a first come, first serve basis, so RSVP as soon as possible!) Please be certain your child will be available to attend the appointment with you before you RSVP. We will not be able to assist any parent without their child being present for the entire duration of the appointment.
· Your child as well as one parent must register for a FSA ID before the workshop (for instructions on how to obtain your FSA ID, please consult the attached FAFSA FSA ID INSTRUCTIONS sheet)
· Bring financial documents listed on the attached FAFSA PREP REQUIRED INFORMATION sheet (tax forms, social security numbers, etc.) If you do not have a social security number, you may still be eligible to apply for financial aid
· Bring a list of colleges you have applied to or will apply to
· Arrive at Stuyvesant’s first floor promptly at the start time you selected: 6:00pm, 7:00pm, or 8:00pm. From the first floor, you will be escorted to Room 351.
**Please note – the parent and child must attend the appointment together to complete the FAFSA.
We hope that you will consider participating in this exciting and beneficial event. For more information, or to RSVP, please contact Mrs. Elizabeth Hughes: ehughes@stuy.edu. In your RSVP, please include your name, the name of your child, and the time slot you desire.
Once again, please be certain that your child will be able to attend the appointment with you.
We hope to see you there!
