Muna Faruqi and Ms. Maggio share that students had an amazing time at the LCOY conference this past week! LCOY is an event under the umbrella of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Its aims are to be a space to boost youth climate action locally and create an input into the international conferences. as we met like-minded youth across the nation.
Throughout the students' time there, they participated in thematic sessions of our choice: climate justice, health and climate, action for climate empowerment, climate adaptation, and food systems and agriculture. The purpose of these thematic sessions were to discuss the issues pertaining to each topic in a local, domestic, and international scale and to voice our demands to the government. These demands are going to be used to draft a National Youth Statement.
They also held a side event and visited other side events as well. Lastly, they signed a MOU between Blue Planet Alliance and LCOY after the final plenary. (photos courtesy of Muna Faruqi)
