The Environmental Club shares the Eco-Fact of the Week for the week of November 1, 2021
Every year for Halloween, many people purchase pumpkins to carve and place outside their homes. However, in just the UK every year, 95% of the 10 million pumpkins that are grown are used just for Halloween, and then thrown away. This results in 18,000 tons of pumpkin being thrown away rather than being properly used, and that’s just in the UK. Pumpkin waste can emit high levels of methane once they end up in landfills, so instead of throwing these pumpkins away try to use them as compost, food waste, or turn them into food! Help to preserve our resources and properly sort your trash!
