The Environmental Club presents the Eco-Fact of the Week!
Did you know that microplastics from the ocean are being emitted into the air every moment? A recent study in the Proceedings in Natural Academy of Sciences (issue published on April 20) shows that 84% of the microplastics in the air comes from roads, 11% from the ocean, and 4% from agriculture dust. Surprisingly, cities don’t contribute much into the plastics of the atmosphere as city buildings stop the wind from lifting plastic particles. Around 10 million metric tons of microplastics are sent into the atmosphere each year, and they can interfere with the formation of clouds high up in the sky, affecting the Earth’s climate as a whole. If we don’t stop producing plastics and disposing them improperly, only more plastics will end up in the air. Help to preserve our resources and properly sort your trash!
