Dr, Ray Wheeler to Retire from Stuyvesant this June

On Friday, Assistant Principal, Dr. Raymond Wheeler conducted the Symphonic Band in his last Spring Concert at Stuyvesant High School. We will be wishing him all the very best in his retirement this June. Principal, Eric Contreras thanked him for his leadership at the start of the evening Friday. Dr. Wheeler will leave Stuyvesant after 35 years in the Department of Education and 22 years here at Stuy. Coming from Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, he joined Stuy in 1987 under the Principalship of Jinx Cozzi Perullo. Stuyvesant had only one performing band, orchestra and choir then. Our music program has grown to 13 performing ensembles, including our newest Handbell Chorus, all to which he humbly credits Stuyvesant’s amazing staff.  At the finale on Friday, seniors presented him with a gift.  We look forward to Dr. Wheeler conducting at the Graduation Ceremony this June and wishing him the happiest retirement thereafter.
