Congratulations to Mr. Kats & the NYC Math Team - amazing results at the CMIMC 2019

Mr. Stanislav Kats shares that last weekend, the NYC Math Team competed in the Carnegie Mellon Informatics and Mathematics Competition (CMIMC). The competition is broken up into three individual rounds (Algebra and Number Theory, Geometry, Combinatorics), a team round and a power round (a proof-based round).

Over 80 teams from across the country competed, and Stuyvesant received the following awards:

In Algebra and Number Theory, Akash Das (11th grade) finished in 8th place nationally.

In Combinatorics, Milan Haiman (12th grade) finished in 5th place nationally.

In Geometry, Kimi Sun (11th grade) and Ethan Joo (10th grade) tied for 6th place, Milan Haiman finished in 4th place and Akash Das finished in 2nd place nationally.

In the Power Round, our top team, Tin Man, finished in 5th place nationally.

Overall, Tin Man, comprised of Ethan Joo (10th grade), Max Vaysburd (10th grade), Akash Das (11th grade), Kimi Sun (11th grade), Matthew Kendall (12th grade) and Milan Haiman (12th grade), finished 4th place nationally.
