Congrats to Stuy Speech & Debate on Amazing Start to 2026!

Stuyvesant Speech and Debate has rocked the past few weeks of competition. At the 79th Chaminade Invitational, the team took home many state qualifications, awards, and ballots. The team placed first, marking a successful showing at the largest NYC tournament of the year.

This past weekend, the team traveled to the University of Pennsylvania for the Liberty Bell Classic. Debaters sparred with national competition online while speakers braved the cold in-person. Through dedicated practice, the team had many finalists, runners-up, and champions. Most importantly, this weekend showed our camaraderie and team spirit, only successful due to the constant support of Ms. Sheinman, coach Sasan, Mr. Hannon, the administration and parents.

Here are the results from UPenn:

Congressional Debate:

Louis Oh-Aronson (‘26) - 3rd*

Lyla Storm (‘27) - 9th

Ellis Thompson (‘26) - 11th

Declamation

Sasha Gogolin (‘28) - Semifinalist

Dramatic Interpretation

Ada Gordon (‘26) - Semifinalist*

Duo Interpretation

Mariya Markova (‘27) and Micah Beirne (‘27) - Champions*

Amanda Greenberg (‘26) and Sofia Lawrence (‘26) - 6th*

Ada Gordon (‘26) and Audrey Hilger (‘26) - Semifinalists

Extemporaneous Speaking

Myles Vuong (‘26) - 5th*

Elina Siu (‘27) - 7th*

Melanie Xie (‘27) - Quarterfinalist

Caitlyn Chan (‘27) - Quarterfinalist

Sam Bokor (‘28) - Quarterfinalist

Caitlyn Lee (‘28) - Quarterfinalist

Humorous Interpretation

Jaydon Mei (‘27) - 2nd*

Sofia Lawrence (‘26) - 5th

Oral Interpretation

Jaydon Mei (‘27) - Semifinalist*

Anna Schaible (‘28) - Quarterfinalist

Original Oratory

Amanda Greenberg (‘26) - Semifinalist*

Program Oral Interpretation

Olivia Cisse (‘26) - 2nd*

Milan Gittens - Semifinalist

JV Lincoln Douglas Debate

Chloe Wang (‘27) - Semifinalist

Austin Guo (‘28) - Semifinalist

Policy Debate

Manya Gautam (‘28) and Olivia Gao (‘28) - 2nd

Novice Public Forum Debate

Karthik Chanda (‘29) and Becker Chan (‘29) - Champions

Arab Advani (‘28) and Sohaib Shahbaz (‘28) - Semifinalists

Winter Constanzo (‘28) and Avril Wei (‘28) - Semifinalists

Ariya Jain (‘28) and Grant Liu (‘28) - Octofinalists

JV Public Forum Debate

Calista Harrington (‘28) and Arya Rajda (‘28) - Champions

Varsity Public Forum Debate

Lander Bovenzi (‘27) and Adrien Devery-Michaelson (‘27) - Double Octofinalists**

* Indicates a bid to the Tournament of Champions

** Indicates a silver bid
