Congratulations to Abigail Lin, Leanna Lin, Raechel Grace Calungsod, and Ellie Mak who have won the Excellence in Student Research Using Historical Records for grades 9-12 for their documentary, The 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act: How One Law Changed the Chinese Immigrant Population of New York in the 2024 New York State Archives Student Research Awards competition!
The competition stated that The 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act: How One Law Changed the Chinese Immigrant Population of New York demonstrated outstanding use of historical records and an excellent understanding of the historical context. The judges appreciated the depth and breadth of the research and connection to New York’s Chinese community today. Your students are to be commended for their clear analysis of the evidence, concise narrative, and exploration of multiple perspectives related to the history of the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act.
