What will you leave behind, Class of 2019? Your Mnemonics cube awaits! It’s your time capsule! Where is it? Top landing of the 7 to 9 escalator bank! You may have noticed that our Public Art for Public Schools Mnemonics Cubes have been getting a facelift this month!
The original Artists, Andrew Ginzel and Kristen Jones have been at Stuyvesant this month repairing damaged cubes and replacing broken or missing pieces. The Department of Cultural Affairs and School Construction Authority in partnership with Public Art for Public Schools awarded Stuyvesant a grant for this work to restore this Public Art Project of 1992.
So far, Andrew Ginzel and Kristen Jones have installed and repaired some of our World Cubes and have even added some new additions! We will soon be updating the website, StuyCubed, to its full register of all cubes in the building. Here is Andrew repairing a cube on the 6th floor this week!
Over the last year, Mr. Matthew Polazzo has teamed up with Ms. Dina Ingram to ensure the filling of time capsules that were neglected over previous years. You may have seen some Alumni featured on Facebook and in Updates returning to Stuyvesant to fill their cubes, such as Classes of 1998, 2006, 2008, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. This Fall, we will welcome back Classes of 2004 and 2014 to complete the process. Want to learn more about our System for Remembering? Read HERE.
It is YOUR time, 2019! Poles have been sent by senior caucus to determine what will mark your presence for our future generations at Stuyvesant and become part of our rich history. We can’t wait to unveil your cube and your story at the end of this month as your time capsule becomes part of 345 Chambers Street.
