They cooked live while a group of 60 plus watched and chatted alongside.

Using three flames and three ladles, we learned how to roll some egg and form a delicate wrapping. Then we piled all the dumplings into a big pot with Chinese cabbage as the base.

Parent Mark Young and his father from Shanghai showed how to use the dumplings in a “Family Reunion” soup, traditionally eaten together at New Year’s.

A big thank you to teacher Ms. Maggio and her mother, who cooked the dish together and provided the most elegant bowl of soup.

Thanks to parent Ting Yu and her son Aiden who confirmed Shanghai stories of New Year’s past, offered additional ingredients for the soup, and suggestions about how to freeze the dumplings and make dumpling soup every day!

A REMINDER: this is the first Cooking with Stuy event. We look forward to an additional webinar in March sponsored by the Korean Outreach Committee.
