Stuyvesant Legacy students of all abilities recently participated in a series of transformative workshops led by Battery Dance instructors and world-class performers Vivake “Vive” Khamsingsavath and Sean Scantlebury. Through these sessions, students created and performed original choreography, fostering self-expression, teamwork, and creativity.
Dance to Connect (DTC) empowers teens by building confidence, leadership, and empathy through the shared process of dancemaking. As Director Robin Cantrell and DTCemphasizes, “It isn’t just about dance, it’s about giving young people the tools to connect, express themselves, and grow into leaders.”
Special thanks go to Stuyvesant Legacy Leaders Emi Shimada, Olivia Morris, Ankita Hassan, and Anna Li, along with all Stuy Legacy members, for organizing this successful collaboration. Appreciation is also extended to colleague and co-faculty advisor, Undine Guthrie, Athletic Director Peter Bologna, PE/Ballroom Coach Silvana Choy and Internship and Student Opportunity Coordinator Harvey Blumm for making this connection and student/community opportunity possible. Battery Dance's Dancing to Connect (DTC) is an award-winning initiative that uses dance as a tool for creativity, collaboration, and empowerment.
A new Battery Dance series of workshops will return in Spring 2026.
