New York City youth with disabilities between the ages of 14-21 who meet the eligibility criteria can submit an application by emailing it to the contact information below. Please note students who submit a fillable PDF application to the TCAC cannot apply online or with any other SYEP lottery, and if you already submitted an application using the DYCD website you will need to request a transfer in writing in order to participate with the TCAC SYEP. 

Please use the checklists located in the application attached for required documents for both Younger Youth (ages 14-15) and Older Youth (ages 16-21) when collecting SYEP applications from your students.

SYEP Application Requirements:

Application deadline: Friday, April 22, 2022 by 5:00pm

  • All supporting documents in the checklist must be submitted with the student’s application to be officially entered into the lottery
  • Applications with missing documents will be considered incomplete and will not be entered into the lottery
  • Please submit a copy of the student’s resume with their SYEP application (Most schools update student resumes annually as part of the ELA curriculum)

Who is eligible?

  • Students ages of 14-21 receiving Individualized Education Programs (IEP) services AND
  • Current residents of one of the five boroughs of New York City AND
  • Students must be enrolled in a New York City Public School, or a Public Charter  School AND
  • Students ages 16-17 must be legally authorized to work in the United States

How does it work?

Younger Youth (YY) Participants ages 14-15 

  • Participants will engage in a total of 75 hours of project-based learning experiences
  • Project-based learning experiences will be comprised of high-quality projects tailored to meet the developmental needs of youth
  • Experiences will include career exploration, introduction to work-readiness skills, enhancement of participants’ understanding of the labor market, and continued development of social emotional learning (SEL) skills
  • Project-based learning experiences will be remote
  • The program will run from July 5th through August 12th
  • Participants will engage in PBL activities up to 12.5 hours a week for six consecutive weeks
  • Participants will receive a stipend of $700 in total for their summer experience
  • All participants selected in the lottery must attend a mandatory unpaid orientation prior to starting their PBL assignment   

How does a school or place of business become a worksite?

  • A SYEP worksite application must be completed for each location and program type  (YY or OY)
  • Schools who service both YY and OY participants will be required to submit two worksite applications (one for YY and one for OY)
  • Schools who have multiple sites will be required to submit work-site applications for each site and each age group (YY and OY) at that site
  • All worksite applications must be submitted by April 22, 2021
  • All worksites must follow federal, state and city Covid-19 guidelines and provide a copy of their company’s New York Forward Safety Plan
  • All worksite supporting documents must submitted to MNTCAC@schools.nyc.gov by COB April 22, 2021
  • All worksites approved by DYCD will have a required orientation, site visit and pre-assessment prior to students starting their work assignments
