Many Stuyvesant students believe that good grades and test scores and a large list of extracurriculars are what they need to get them into a great college. While that's true to a certain extent, colleges are also looking for intangibles (ambition, polish, leadership potential, the ability to sell yourself and persuade others, etc) that are not taught in most Stuyvesant classrooms and clubs.
The Alumni Mentoring Program is a program created by Stuyvesant alumni for current students based on the collective learnings and experiences of dozens of alumni over the decades. Once you're in the program, you will be paired off with your own mentor who will work with you to develop your self-marketing and pre-professional skills (resume writing, interviewing, networking, and many others) that are not only vital to your future professional success but becoming ever more important for college admissions.
The Alumni Mentoring Program is a year-long program with a time commitment of 5 - 6 hours per month. Application for this school year will close next Saturday, October 31st. Our General Interest Meeting will be on Thursday, October 29 at 5PM. You already spend countless hours every week on your schoolwork and extracurriculars. So what is another few hours per month to make sure you learn the skills needed to highlight your hard work in the best light possible? College Admissions Consulting can easily cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. The Alumni Mentoring Program will provide you with the same knowledge and skill set for free thanks to the support and generosity of alumni and the Alumni Association.
Apply today before the Program closes its application for the year! Sign up for our interest form here to get reminders and tips on the application and information on our General Interest Meeting.
