Yankees-Stonewall Scholarship for Seniors and GSA Documentation

The DOE, in partnership with the Yankees and The Stonewall Inn, created the Yankees-Stonewall Scholars Initiative, now in its fifth year. Please encourage eligible graduating seniors to apply for the 2022 Yankees-Stonewall Scholarship by April 10. This is a one-time scholarship of $10,000, which will be awarded to a student from each borough to celebrate the achievements of New York City public school graduating seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement and impactful support of the LGBTQ community. Please note the following eligibility criteria for students:

  • A graduating senior with at least a 2.5 GPA;
  • Planning to attend a two-year or four-year college;
  • Exhibited a commitment to equality, leadership in the area of LGTBQ support, and made significant contributions to the LGTBQ community.

Finalists will be selected for an interview with representatives from the DOE and the New York Yankees. Winners will be notified in May and invited to participate in an on-field ceremony during the Yankees Pride Night in June.

Additionally, and as noted in the January 10 edition of Principals Digest, your school’s GSA must be documented every fall in the Consolidated School and Youth Development Plan (ConsPlan). Please update your school’s GSA information, using these instructions, by March 15.
