Teenspace: Free Online Mental Health Services Now Available for All Teens in NYC!

Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan announced "TeenSpace,” the City's free tele-mental health service (opens in new window). The service will allow all New York City teenagers ages 13-17 to connect free of charge with a licensed therapist through phone, video, and text.

TeenSpace forms part of the City’s investment in improving physical and mental health, and its response to increasing levels of anxiety and depression among youth and teenagers during and since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligible teens can sign up at talkspace.com/NYC, and can choose from free self-guided sessions or get started with therapy immediately with their parents' consent.

In addition to services, mental health education beginning in elementary grades is crucial to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to recognize, communicate about, and respond to challenges. New York State law requires mental health lessons as part of Health Education in grades K-12.
