Take a Survey - Help students creating an App to reduce plastic waste and use and map NYC Water Fountains

Take a Survey to assist in mapping NYC's Water Fountains! Reduce plastic use and waste!

Please spend just a few minutes to take a survey to help with an innovative idea for a new app and website designed by Stuyvesant students to help map NYC water fountains and reduce plastic waste and use. Here's the link to the survey: https://forms.gle/6Vo36Vbg6GfvzuVy7

Stuyvesant sophomores, Christopher Dou and Esteak Shapin have been working on a website that detects the user's location and displays the locations of water fountains on an interactive map. They currently have all the public water fountains in New York City parks mapped out. In a nutshell, they're creating the google maps of water fountains. One of the main objectives with the creation of this website is to reduce the amount of plastic wasted on plastic water bottles, as only 23% of plastic bottles are ultimately recycled. With the website, they hope to help people find fountains so they don't have to buy more plastic bottles and create unnecessary waste every time they're thirsty. Currently, they're working on displaying a picture of the fountain in its surrounding area, along with a rating of how clean the water from the fountain is based on crowdsourced information from users of the website. Additionally, they're working to implement a status bar that indicates if the fountain is working at the moment, as one of the biggest reasons people don't even try to look for water fountains is that they're broken half of the time in New York City.
They believe that this website (ios & android app coming out soon!) can really help many New Yorkers, as well as the environment.
