Stuyvesant Opens the Irwin Zahn Innovation Lab

On Friday, March 2, 2017  Stuyvesant High School held the Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting for the Irwin Zahn Innovation Lab in room 251.   Principal, Eric Contreras, opened the ceremony. Special guest speakers were: Stuyvesant Alumnus ’44, CEO and Chairman of the Moxie Foundation, Irwin Zahn: Manhattan Borough President, Gale Brewer; Technology Department Teacher, Chris Suter, Stuyvesant Parent’s Association Co-president, Heather Higgins; Assistant Principal, Scott Thomas; and Stuyvesant students. Students held interactive demonstrations on the projects they’ve worked on in the innovation lab during a reception following with parents from the PA grant-writing committee, staff and other guests including alumni. A second ceremony and reception were held in the early evening with guests and alumni featuring more student speakers, Irwin Zahn, and Assistant Principal, Elizabeth Fong. It was a long-awaited special day. Special thanks to the Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association, as well as the Parent’s Association.  Junior, Christine Wu, closed her heartfelt speech today summing up our feelings saying, “because of all of those here today, the students of Stuyvesant have the chance to pursue their passions”. We are all looking forward to our new Innovation Lab becoming an exciting creative center to thousands of future inventors, engineers, innovators, and scientists of the future in this makers space at Stuyvesant!
