StuyPuentes a la Hispanidad celebrates Three Kings Day

StuyPuentes members have enjoyed some very exciting couple of months. This past January 4th, the club celebratedThree Kings' Day known in Spanish as El Día de los Reyes Magos. Club members shared some cultural background on how the holiday is celebrated in different Latino countries and communities in the US. They also shared some personal anecdotes on how they celebrate with their Dominican, Ecuadorian, Mexican and Puerto Rican families every year in New York. They also discussed a short video where the Puerto Rican American play right and actor Lin Manuel Miranda  talked about Reyes being his favorite time of the year growing up in Washington Heights with his Puerto Rican family. Students then enjoyed some hot chocolate, traditional Rosca or Roscón de Reyes courtesy of Don Paco's Bakery, and our generous Parent Association. Club members also exchanged Secret Santas or angelitos to mark the end of the celebration.

On Thursday, February 8th, StuyPuentes teamed up with some remarkable juniors who volunteer for NYC Teens for 9 Million Reasons, a nonprofit that is providing academic help, food and an array of  other services to the needy, most recently, to migrant families. Our very own Grace Rhee, Johnny Lin, and Maegan Diep ran an informative presentation on the work they've been doing with migrant families on the Long Island City site of the organization. Afterwards, they were joined by StuyPuentes to spread some joy and love by making Valentines to deliver to migrant children for the holiday.
