Stuy Twins, Kyle and Kaleb Lancman featured as NYers of the Week!

Congratulations to sophomore twins, Kyle and Kaleb Lancman! We're so proud of you!

Last week, they were featured on NY1 as NYers of the week because of an after-school chess club (Spanish) they set up in Times Square for Latino migrants living in the Hell's Kitchen shelters. They did this with their chess coach, Russ Makofsky.  In the club, children learn to play chess and paint in an art corner and the parents learn English while they wait. They started with two children on the first day and now they have a full-house.

You can see the video at this link.

Stuy students from the chess club have started to go by to coach the children in recent weeks. They welcome more Stuy students volunteer if interested and looking for a way to give back to the community.

Ms. Lorna Myers, Kyle and Kaleb's mother shares that the program may be moving from the church basement where it is now to a local public school five days a week after school activities. in collaboration with the DOE.

Congrats to Kyle and Kaleb on this amazing program!
