The Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain at Columbia University invited Dr. Tu and three Stuyvesant students in Sophomore and Junior Research classes to their “Scientist for the Day” on 4/29/2026. Students met Drs. Mariana Jimenez, Andrew Sproul, Natura Myeku, Ronak Patel, and Tal Nuriel, learned about their research projects, toured the state-of-the-art research facility, and hold the human brain at the New York Brain Bank under Dr, Andrew Teich’s supervision. Special thanks to our alum Robert (Bob) Jacobs (‘66) for donating this amazing opportunity to our students for the second year, and Mr.Diego Segalini (Executive Director of SHSAA) and Mr. Matthew Reals (Taub Institute) coordinating this event. Our students were so intrigued by how basic research in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and model organisms could advance treatments in Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases in humans. See a full size photo collage here.
