The New York Blood Center invited four Stuyvesant students in Sophomore Research class to their Future Leaders in Science Event on 11/16/2023. Students attended a seminar series presented by four scientists on their cutting-edge research, engaged in post-lecture discussion, toured the state-of-the-art research facility, and observed neurons, heart cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells under various types of microscopes. Students also learned about the various processes in producing different products (red blood cells, platelets, plasma, etc.) from the donated blood, and the importance of blood donation in saving lives. Our students were so intrigued by how basic research could advance treatments in medicine! Dr. Tu would like to thank Ms. Vertica Manobia chaperoning the trip!
