Stuy hosts Association of Educational Therapist’s East Coast Workshop

On Saturday, April 6th, Sarah Kornhauser, school counselor, and Casey J. Pedrick, AP, Pupil Personnel Services, hosted the Association of Educational Therapists (AET) East Coast Workshop at Stuyvesant. This collaboration came about when Ms. Kornhauser attended the AET workshop in 2023 and felt it was very beneficial. She approached the AET president, Lori Dver, with an idea for the 2024 workshop: the twice exceptional child. Ms. Dver thought it was a great idea! Fast forward a year and the 2024 workshop theme would be The Neurodivergent Playbook: Identifying, Teaching and Serving Gifted/2e Learners with presenter Dr. Matt Zakreski, PsyD, Founder and Lead Psychologist of The Neurodiversity Collective. Over the course of 6.5 hours, participants learned to define the key terms (giftedness, 2e, neurotypical and neurodivergent brains) and to clarify misconceptions; to identify the best practices and common challenges in educating gifted and 2e learners; and to understand how to integrate Social and Emotional Learning practices into educating Gifted/2e Learners.
