Stuy holds Professional Development for Counseling Department on Conference Day

This week, Stuyvesant was proud to host the New York State School Counselor Association Chancellor’s Conference Day for Staff Development. Our entire Counseling Department enjoyed a full day of Professional Development.

This included training on New State Regulations for the School Counseling Profession and their implications for the School Counseling Practice, taught by Ms. Gloria Jean, NYSSCA’s Professional Development Chair. After that full morning presentation, counselors had three workshops:

Practical Approaches to Multiculturalism, Social Justice and Advocacy in Schools presented by Dr. Charles C. Edwards; a teacher and Nationally Certified School Counselor and Dr. Pei-Han Cheng psychologist assistant professor at Brooklyn College, and founder of Open Minds Psychological Consulting PLLC. We were happy to welcome Dr. Cheng back to Stuyvesant. She also presented at our Parents Association meeting on Parenting High Achievers last school year.

Integrating Mindfulness in School Counseling Practice presented by Ms. Melissa Chen, M.A., RYT 200 (registered yoga teacher) who is a currently serving as a NYC DOE middle school guidance counselor and a previous career counselor at New York University and Pace University.
