The college application process is about to begin, so we have a few quick college planning notes/tasks you should begin to address now that the fall term has officially begun.
We’re sure you recall that the Stuyvesant High School College Office utilizes Naviance. Naviance is the tool through which we will submit required documents to most of the colleges and universities to which you'll apply. You can log in to your Naviance account via the link below.

1- Most of you will likely apply to colleges via the Common Application (www.commonapp.org). Common App and Naviance are linked to one another; you must match your Common App account to Naviance. To do so, you’ll need to:
-create an account at www.commonapp.org .
-go to the Education section and select Stuyvesant as your high school
-add at least one college to the Common App “My Colleges” list
-select “Recommenders and FERPA” under any college in your list, select “Complete Release Authorization”, and complete the steps within. Select “I waive my right” in the FERPA form to avoid complications with your recommenders!
- log in to your Naviance account, and click on "colleges I'm applying to". You'll then be prompted to match your Common App and Naviance accounts.
This is a critical yet simple task that won't take very much of your time, and you don’t need to be sure of your colleges plans yet. If you need help with matching, email your assigned college counselor. You can also watch this quick video tutorial.
2- Please make sure your family (both you AND your parents together, if possible) plan to attend our virtual Senior College Night on Tuesday,September 14, at 7:00pm...that's this Tuesday! It is most important thatyou, the student, attend, even if your parents cannot. You received that registration link via email on Friday, and through Ms. Ingram's updates, but here it is again.
3-Our college counselors will soon contact you to schedule individual appointments with seniors to check on your college plans. Please remember that we are not able to offer parent appointments in the senior year. Parents can of course email us as needed throughout the year.
4-You DO NOT need to update your SSR survey for your school counselor’s rec letter; rec letters are not intended to list all of your extracurriculars and you will list any summer activities in your applications. But, if you have something new and critical to share with your school counselor, please use the SSR Survey Update form in Naviance and email your school counselor to let them know you have a brief update to share with them. If you plan on submitting an update, please do so by September 21.
